Don't know what key performance indicators they used to achieve those ratings but i thought it would be nice to share it here.

Some highlights
Number 1 spot belongs to Intel Xeon E5 -4650 with 100%
Intel i7 3960X is rated at 73%, while the best AMD chip, the Opteron 6272 sits at 68%

The criteria seems to be based on cumulative tests by various sites. They compiled the data and came up with this list.

Don't know what key performance indicators they used to achieve those ratings but i thought it would be nice to share it here.

Some highlights
Number 1 spot belongs to Intel Xeon E5 -4650 with 100%
Intel i7 3960X is rated at 73%, while the best AMD chip, the Opteron 6272 sits at 68%
AMD's best chip is not Opteron 6272(2.1-3Ghz). Maybe they only had that one but definitely not 6272. AMD's fastest 16T Opteron is Opteron 6386 SE (2.8-3.5Ghz). That Opteron should be ~25% faster than the one in their list.

We got what we paid for, and it wasn't worth a eurocent more.

Hey guys, I work with the team that built cpuboss so I thought i'd chime in. One of the goals of our site is to make it easier for people to compare how cpus are different, so although we do try and attribute 'overall scores' to help rank processors, we don't mean for these to be a one-size-fits-all ranking of the best cpus. We think the most value for our users will be in the way we breakdown and compare how cpus are different from each other, ranging from pure specs, to performance benchmarks, and reviews (we aggregate this data from other sites and try and organize it in a more user-friendly UI).

I want to emphasize that we tried to create a flexible system where someone who has a particular need (multithreading, performance per dollar, brand, etc.) can use our filters to create a list like the one that was posted at the top of the thread, except tailored towards specific criteria (the default ranking is pretty generic). So for example, we've created a few pre-made lists on the home page (e.g. best gaming cpus) that filter out some of the noise, like having the server + desktop cpus mixed in one list, as noted in this thread.

One person mentioned the i7 3770T and the 3770K contradictory results, and I will admit we don't do a great job at explaining where our data comes from (we're working on this!), but here's what's happening: the 37770T benchmarks better on the performance data that we have shared data across processors (we need consistent and common benchmarks in order to have a reference point). However, for the in-depth comparison, we take a lot more factors into account (specs, various benchmarks, value, etc.), and show exactly how each cpu is different in each area where we're able to collect data.

Hope that helps provide a bit more clarity. We're still a pretty new site (launched in January), so we're always on the looking for suggestions and feedback. I know there's a few hurdles that we still have to overcome, so thanks for sharing your thoughts here.

You rank "BEST CPUS" and have a $3.6k 2.7GHz 8-core with 1.45pt/$ ranked #1 but have a $1.9k 3.1GHz 8-core with 2.74pt/$ ranked #2 (immediately below, and lower, to the #1 CPU) it makes the logic tree of the entire ranking list a bit questionable.

Or look at CPU #5 vs CPU #1 - identical tech stats but the CPU ranked fifth is half the cost of the CPU ranked #1.

The scoring just defies any rhyme or reason. And if it doesn't make sense at first blush then it will quickly develop a poor reputation for yourselves. In my opinion you guys would have been way better off keeping this thing under development until you matured it and fleshed out the details. Rushing it out to the public for full scrutiny before it was really ready is just going to hurt you in the long run.

If you are gonna annoint yourselves as the "CPU Boss" then you should walk the walk a heck of a lot better. First impressions mean everything on the marketing side of the business you are trying to be in.

Maybe the UI could have an advanced mode where users could have more control over the weighting of the variables. In the example above, the only meaningful difference between E5-4650 and E5-2680 is that the former can run in quad-CPU applications, something few that visit the cpuboss site will find significant.

Guys. It's the Covington Celeron at 266MHz. It's faster because it cut off unnecessary fat like the secondary cache. You can see it in the name: Ac"celer"ate is very close to Celeron because today we associate increasing speed with the great masterpiece called the Celeron.

Maybe the UI could have an advanced mode where users could have more control over the weighting of the variables. In the example above, the only meaningful difference between E5-4650 and E5-2680 is that the former can run in quad-CPU applications, something few that visit the cpuboss site will find significant.

You rank "BEST CPUS" and have a $3.6k 2.7GHz 8-core with 1.45pt/$ ranked #1 but have a $1.9k 3.1GHz 8-core with 2.74pt/$ ranked #2 (immediately below, and lower, to the #1 CPU) it makes the logic tree of the entire ranking list a bit questionable.

Or look at CPU #5 vs CPU #1 - identical tech stats but the CPU ranked fifth is half the cost of the CPU ranked #1.

The scoring just defies any rhyme or reason. And if it doesn't make sense at first blush then it will quickly develop a poor reputation for yourselves. In my opinion you guys would have been way better off keeping this thing under development until you matured it and fleshed out the details. Rushing it out to the public for full scrutiny before it was really ready is just going to hurt you in the long run.

If you are gonna annoint yourselves as the "CPU Boss" then you should walk the walk a heck of a lot better. First impressions mean everything on the marketing side of the business you are trying to be in.

Thanks for the feedback! You raise some good points that i'd like to address. I think one of the issues is that the default "Best CPUs" is ambiguous and we don't do a good job communicating that. The sort list is supposed to show a list of cpus along a specific criteria (in this case it's a performance benchmark) while the comparison pages will have a different conclusion/scores because it measures a basket of different criteria, which we provide a breakdown for on the comparison pages. Alternatively, anyone can create their own custom list depending on what they think is important, so for example the "best gaming performance" would provide a different list: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Desktop-CPUs-best-Overall-Performance-4311159 - so there is a logic to our scoring, we just don't communicate it very well (again, something we're working on).

Anyways, like I say we do appreciate the critique. RE: your comment about releasing to the public, while I do agree that first impressions are important, we wouldn't be able to get this same kind of feedback without getting outside our development bubble, and by going public we've been able to gauge what we're doing well and areas that we could make the site even better :)

Clearly that place's criteria for 'best cpus in the world' is not at all the same as mine. They only have brand new CPUs there.

I personally think several of the best cpus in the world are:
AMD 386DX-40
Intel 486 DX2/66
Intel pentium P55C (pentium mmx)
Intel pentium PRO
Intel coppermine Pentium III
Intel tualatin Pentium III
AMD spitfire duron
AMD athlon XP Barton
AMD Athlon 64 x2 series
Intel core 2 series
AMD phenom II series

anything else IMO is either rubbish, not so good, or too new to make such a decision on it being one of the true greats.

The tense (past, present, future) makes all the difference when it comes to the context of the phrase "the best".

Do you really believe the AMD 386DX-40 is "the best" CPU? Or do you mean to say "at the time, it was the best"?

I look at that list as being a present-tense sort of ranking. What is currently the best? I would not expect to see a 25 yr old CPU in a list of "the best CPU", I'd expect to see it in a list of "notable CPUs from decades past".

That's where we differ. I think the 386DX-40 is one of the best cpus in the world (aka of all time), and when I opened this thread I was rather disappointed it only showed brand new cpus...

And yes, I still use a 386DX-40. Look in my sig! ;)

Now, if they had said the best current cpus or the best new cpus, I would totally agree with you. It's just different people and different views and expectations, it seems. :cool:
