Guys;

Could you fill/add something on my list about the technology of these 2 major processor manufactuer?

Intel
MMX
SSE/SSE2/SSE3
Hyper Threading
Speed step
EMT64

AMD
3DNow which I heard just similar to SSE instruction AMD copied to Intel
powernow which is similar to speed step
integrated memory controller
64 bit technology

They have cross licensing agreements, so technically they both own and can use all of those. They cooperate quite a bit.

Which is why the Intel/AMD AMD/Intel squabbling is so funny sometimes.

haha ya. primary difference between the two are pipeline lengths i believe. if not for that, then they'd be very similar.

I'll give you a more complete list:

Intel
MMX
SSE/SSE2/SSE3
Hyperthreading Technology
Speedstep (which I believe is just for laptops; regardless it dynamically underclocks the CPU core)
EMT64 ('borrowed' from AMD)

AMD
3DNow! (AMD's answer to MMX/SSE1)

SSE/SSE2/ (soon)SSE3
cool n' quiet (or is this a motherboard feature? Regardless it's similar to speedstep)
Hypertransport bus
AMD64

They've got essentially the same technologies in their cores (although AMD doesn't have EMT64 quite yet on their mainstream parts, nor AMD SSE3, although both are coming soon.

I'm surprise that AMD dont have the Power Now at their OPTERON while XEON do have the DBS??? Is this true????

AMD had 3DNow! out before Intel had SSE. So it should be said that Intel answered AMDs 3DNow! by adding SSE to the cores.

Aye, 3DNow debuted on the K6-2 chips. SSE was Intel's counter to 3Dnow.
