After re-watching it, I am bowled over by that. It is truly a masterpiece of cinema, combining modern day issues with old philosophical premises. Epic trilogy.

Lord of the Rings--awesome all around, no doubt.

Master and Commander--the amount of detail, acting, etc was awesome.

Kingdom of Heaven--really liked that film, surprisingly didn't do all that well

I'd forgotten about master and commander, great movie. One of my favorite movies about that era of naval expansion and warfare.

- Napoleon Dynamite. The credits started rolling, and my only reaction was, "It's over? But....nothing happened yet!"

- Any movie that Ed Wood directed. (MST3K featured several.) Those are mind-blowing in all the wrong ways though.

- Like many others, Sixth Sense. Never saw it coming that what's-his-name was dead.

Oh shit dude, yeah.

Seven Samurai -- Akira Kuwosawa
ZULU! -- such an epic film, Michael Caine is in it, cast of thousands, awesome movie

Sunset Boulevard was awesome as well. Didn't necessarily blow my mind, a lot of the films didn't really "OMG BRAIN ASSPLODED" my mind, because entertainment such as this doesn't do that for me. But it can come close.

Not at all. I loved the art portions, which is why the agenda was so annoying. It was distracting.

Don't get me wrong - art doesn't have any redeeming features other than my enjoyment of it, but that's really all I need because hedonism is the only MO worth having these days anyway.

What I'm getting at in a roundabout way is I'll continue enjoying all the art they want to pump out - if it's worth enjoying - but I'm certainly not going to pretend I'm willing to validate it along side better paying accomplishments. Superficiality and irrational ego stroking just won't have that shit.

Agreed. It was a fucking shame that movie got completely overshadowed by the Pirates of the Caribbean craze. It's kind of frightening that teen girls are the most powerful market force in the film world.....really, they're the most powerful market force in pretty much any area, now that I think of it. No wonder they're all growing up so fucked up. They're raised by commercials.

I like Kingdom of Heaven as well. The DVD version is awesome. The director's uncut version on blu-ray sucked balls. i wish they would've included the edited version on that as well

I liked certain anti-war movies. The Charge of the Light Brigade was good in that paralleled the senseless waste in Vietnam and the amount of absolute incompetence Kennedy's "whiz kids" were demonstrating throughout the operation.

Some anti-American films are good too. There was a certain movie I watched, took place during the Revolution, had Al Pacino in it, definitely anti American, but it was enjoyable. The cinematography was good, the acting was good, and it was believable.

When an agenda starts to really irritably show up is in movies like Quantum of Solace. Do you think I give two shits about Global Warming and environmental damages caused allegedly by corporations when watching a flick devoted to one of the most light hearted Badasses of all time?

Fuck no. I want to see some villains get their asses thrown out some windows, not break down in guilty tears over the poor trees, people, and pollution of a fictional country.

Yup. I should have thought of that one. One of the movies I tell younger folks to see, along with Casablanca.

really? I quite liked it and heard the theatrical was terrible (never saw that). I generally like Ridley Scott, so wasn't surprised at how much I liked this despite the terrible reviews preceding it.

The biggest problem with Kingdom of heaven was the horrible miss-casting of Orlando Bloom. He was great in Troy, because he really plays the whiny, incompetent weakling quite well. His personae doesn't translate well when he has to be the one taking charge, as in KoH.

He is a fucking horrible actor, and thus he really plays the whiny, incompetent weakling quite well, but still manages to suck while doing it. His personae doesn't translate well when any skill is required, which is why Ridley Scott killed him off within ten minutes in Black Hawk Down and Peter Jackson just basically used his face as a digital template for Legolas in some cool fight scenes in the LOTR trilogy.

Fixed.

I don't know, I liked him in KoH, I thought that was his best acting. Some of his best acting, but that doesn't say much. ;)

Lucky Number Slevin was awesome too. Not an epiphany, but a cool show.

I preferred Shoot Em Up in that vein. It did more by trying to be less.

Ill start with a few of what has been mentioned. Requiem, Primer, Fight Club.

I haven't seen The Shining mentioned yet, I still don't really understand the last scene there, or really anything.

Read the book, IMO it's King's best and even Kubrick couldn't come close to capturing it (though the film is good).

The Man from Earth

I didn't know what to expect from this indie movie, other then I was just bored that day and decided to give it a shot. My mind was blown by the end..
