The morons I work with.
Stunning example of their technical support skills. I'm a Product Specialist/L2 in technical support for Dell. This is a summary of an actual conversation I had today with someone:
First call:
Him: I'm trying to get to a DOS prompt in Windows ME to restore the registry, but hitting F8 doesn't get me the option for a DOS prompt.
Me: Right, that's because there's no DOS option in Windows ME. You need to boot to the Resource CD (a CD with a bunch of tools and drivers we use every day) to get to DOS.
Him: Ok, thanks.
Second call (10 minutes after the first):
Him: I'm trying to boot to the CD, but it keeps taking me into Windows.
Me: Did you set CD-ROM Drive to first boot device?
Him: No. I have to do that in BIOS right?
Me: Yes.
Him: But, I can't get into Windows, so how can I get into BIOS?
Me: BIOS has nothing to do with the OS. Just hit delete and it will take you in.
Him: Oh.
Third call (30 minutes after the first):
Him: I'm trying to get CD-ROM Drive as first boot device, I'm in BIOS, where do I go from here?
Me: Go to Boot Configuration.
Him: Where's that?
Me: Um.. In BIOS.
Him: Oh. Under what option?
Me: There's a menu called Boot Configuration. You go in there.
Him: And then what?
Me: You set CD-ROM as the first boot device.
Him: Oh.
GAH!
