Someone on FB described the film Jumanji as awesome recently. I felt like asking either "what's better than awesome?" or "wow, it's the best movie you've ever watched, really?".

What is wrong with awesome? It literally means causing awe. It does not necessarily meant that it was good, that would be wonder. So, what is better then awesome? Wonderful.

What is wrong with awesome? It literally means causing awe. It does not necessarily meant that it was good, that would be wonder. So, what is better then awesome? Wonderful.

There's nothing wrong with the word, however it has been so completely abused that now everything is "awesome". New phone? Awesome. Cold drink on a hot day? Awesome. Got home on time today? Awesome. Yawn.

If something is awe-inspiring, then assuming we're not talking about an awe-inspired two-year-old, then it ought to be one of the most remarkable things someone has ever / will ever see. I don't know whether "wonderful" trumps "awesome", personally I don't think so, but they could be interchangeable I suppose.

"Post-modern." I have absolutely no idea how to use it correctly, and I'm not nearly pretentious enough to pull it off regardless. Which reminds me, I'd also never use "irregardless," because it's not a fucking word. I'm also not big on corporate buzzwords, so "synergy" and "paradigm" probably won't come up very regularly in my conversations.

I always forget to use it when it's appropriate, so I just tend to avoid dative case entirely. That keeps my sentence structure simpler, and helps me communicate with people better.

So it's a win/win.
