I've been watercooling for years now. Started out with a "self-contained" Thermaltake Aquarius. I unlocked my 1 gig AMD and ran it to 1.4ghz and thot this was the only way to go (it didn't beat by celeron 300a to 450 mhz tho in o/c % but oh well).
Since then I made my own with various components like a Swifty mcp650 pump, Off brand 1/2" id tubing with that blue curly cue s*** that prevents kinking. Highly recommended btw.
Danger Den TDX cpu waterblock, Black Ice radiator in a Swifty outside radiator box w/ an adjustible Thermaltake 120mm fan all in an antique Antec SX 630 case w/three intake and two exhaust fans.
I've used this platform ( except for changing cpu waterblocks depending on what I was running at the time, AMD or Intel). I've been getting some good o/c's (imo) over the years. A 2.8 Northy @ 3.5, a 3.2 Prescott @ 4gig. An Opty 165 @ 2.7 ( better than the equivalent of a thousand dollar FX-60 for $233.00 at that time).
Just a word of advice. These things need a tune up every year or so. Replace the hoses, clamps and of course, the coolant. I let my stuff go for two years and all of a sudden it worked one day and not the next. No video, no beeps. The fans powered up but no drives, nada. It took out the mb. I saw a couple of drips on my GTX 260 and thot it was f***up!!
Saw a couple more on my X-Fi and thot it was ruined. I stripped the box and tried the video/audio cards in my main box and they were good to go. Thank you Lord. As it turned out, over so many heat cycles, on and off, the cpu wb developed a leak from the barb o-rings and the o-ring between the copper hs and the lucite top. A couple of twists on the barbs and on the torx bolts on the wb and it took care of the leak. Too bad it took out the mb but things could've been a lot worse and expensive. I've been running just the cooling system now for 24hrs. with no leaks. A buddy of mine from the Evga forums sent me a replacement board for free. I plan on installing it tomorrow. If it works, I'll send him some $ along with my graditude!
Just thot I'd pass along my 'sperience :).
Peace. :)
