I feel it is wrong. I mean after seeing the Ashley Simpson clip and also remembering the Britney Spears HBO Concert, Lipsyncing sucks. I mean why do they do it?? Its such BS cause half of them cant sing and when you hear thier cd's, its basically their voice thrown into pro tools and filtered 100000 times.

Also, didnt Milli Vanilli get busted lipsyncing??? It ruined thier careers. Whats the difference??

Anyone have a video of Milli Vanilli when they got caught?

I don't like lipsynching. However, I know some people that goto the BS concerts and they go for the show instead of the music.

Edit: Fix ze poll.

Lipsyncing sucks, but what do you expect out of today's pop-stars.

The milli-vanilli fiasco was kinda different from what happened on SNL. The lipsyncing frontmen didn't even record their studio tracks. They were a facade for the older, unattractive (in the record company's eyes) studio musicians that actually did the voice tracks. They had to give back their grammy too.

But you have to realize that most people who go to see these cookie-cutter popstar shows aren't exactly going to *hear* them sing, so much as to *see* and be *entertained*. I'd be inclined to say that most if not all concer-goers know that the show is lip-synced, and if they don't, well, they're just morons then. You can't expect some pop-star to be jumping around and dancing on stage and still keep a PERFECT tone of voice, without even a hint of exhaustion or variation in vocals.

I'm beginning to sound like a broken record... like in the Ashley Simpson threads... singers like Christina Aguilera or Whitney Houston should not lip sync during a live concert. Entertainers who dance, like Madonna and Britney Spears need to do so since they are dancing the entire time. You can't dance and be able to sing properly for 3 hours straight.

BTW, if you don't think Britney can sing, she was signed to Jive Records based on an a cappella (ref) performance in front of 3 music execs.

Milli Vanilli got caught more than lipsyncing. It was not them singing at all.

Lipsyncing is necessary sometimes, could you imagine trying to sing for 1-2 hours a night 6 days a week for 3-4 months while on tour. Your voice would just die. Besides most of the people who goto see performers like Ashlee Simpson have bad taste in music, and are there to see her the performance is just a bonus to her fans.

If the audience is unaware of the lip-synching (ie, made to believe that the artist is actually playing/singing), it is wrong to lip-synch. Period.

Similar techniques wouldn't be tolerated in other industries, nor should they be tolerated in the music industry.

uh, i'd say it's easier to lip-sync. there's far less articulation so there's far less lip-sound syncronization to worry about. 90 % of the time you just have to open your mouth and tense your neck muscles and you've got it perfectly.

but metal bands don't NEED to lipsync because they don't sing. you can still scream just fine if you're out of breath, but from experience, i know it is tougher to sing when you're out of breath. actually the tendancy is to just turn everything into a scream, oddly enough.

but if i can run around like a maniac with 10 pounds of wood strapped to my shoulder and still sing without a guide track or pitch correction, those "trained" singers ought to be able to hop around around with only a microphone and do the same.

metal bands don't need to lip sync because if they can't even mouth the words, they don't deserve to be playing anywhere live. It's not like they're dancing up a storm with an instrument strapped to their shoulder.

I think lip syncing should only be used for singers that plan on doing alot of jumping around/dancing on stage. It would just be impossible to maintain a good voice and still do that. People like Ashley Simpson that do NOTHING physical on stage should not have to result to lip syncing. What ever happend to the days where you actually needed some talent to play music?

If the performer is up front about the lip syncing, I see nothing wrong with it.

But if you're not, beware the wrath of the public.

by impossible, i mean by sound

most metal bands in concert can't keep the same vocal speeds and patterns as they do on their album

Which makes Madonna a huge talent IMO, whether you like her music or not.
IMO, she's good, actually sings (with a great voice) AND entertains... ALL at the same time.
Most of todays stars only have ONE of those qualities. It's very very rare to have all three

Madonna is in a class WWWAAAYYYY above the rest
