first time trying LinX (or anything with linpack)

Q6600 set to 400x8 @ 1.3375vCore in Bios
Opened up LinX, Check to "Stop on Error" check to "Enable Sounds"
Memory Usage "512" (whats best to use with 4gb of ram on 32bit os?)
times to run: "20" (What is the amount of times to run that is said to be equivalent to 24hours of prime or 2 hours of OCCT?)

Seems the most stressful is just to click the use all memory button. The machine becomes more sluggish if you do that though. 20 times would probably be a safe bet to determine if your system is stable or not.

Edit: This program seems to have a GFLOPS performance indicator. Could this program be used as a benchmark or benchmark of general cpu performance? What is everybody else getting for the GFLOPS? I got between 45.XXX and 46.XXX on most of my tests.

just use the max setting which will adjust automatically for you. As for testing, it is suggested that 64bit OS be used for complete testing of system, although 32bit seems to stress my rig plenty hard.

With Prime95 using 8 threads the temps are stable between 70 and 73. These are temps recorded with SpeedFan. Add around +10 for RealTemp temps.

I've noticed that too. I find it strange that some people claim that linpack causes temps higher than prime95, because I just don't see it.

What cpu are you using?
On my q6600s linpack produces higher temps (10C+). On E2200 and E2180 prime 95 does.
Might have something to do with how much cpu cache there is.

so what are most people setting the parameters for this test to stabilize their system?
is 20passes enough for most systems or is 50?

is all memory good? (i have 4gb in a 32-bit OS) or is 512mb good?

I still cannot get over how insane this application is under max RAM testing with 8 GB...

I'm getting temps in LinX over 15C higher than with P95 small FFTs!

I get 11C difference for my setup. Only E2XX0 chips for me don't produce higher temps.

Your limited to 2 gig per process in 32bit os, so anything over 2 gig should crash it.
I use 20 passes but thats with 8 gig max mem settings (64bit os).
