DAMN IT!!! im about to start saying I HATE LINUX!!!!

WHY THE HELL CANT I CONFIGURE THIS $HIT!!!!

I CANT CONFIGURE MY NETWORK CONNECTION!, im using drak profile to configure both a local network connection, AND a cable connection, BUT IT STILL DOESNT WORK!!!!

how come i cant fill in all the info like i can in windows?

im using mandrake 7.2, on top of that, when i change network settings, it wont let me open ANY application, it will return an error. is this Microsoft 7.2?!?!?!

Mandrake is a good looking Linux distribution, but I still prefer Redhat. I would suggest going with Redhat 7.0. Seemless installation and configuration.

As far as configuring your network. First make sure that your network card is configured by either the right module or being built into the kernel. Once that is done, do a "ping localhost". If that works, then you know what TCP/IP is setup properly. Next, run "netcfg" to configure the hostname/ip-address of your machine, also setup the nameserver, and gateway. That should be all that is there that needs to be done..

Now doing "/sbin/ifconfig -a" should yield you the IP address you put in and "route" should show you your route table.

or linuxconf...

is the network card working? if not try the hardware probing utility under DrakConf.

i think my main thing is nto being able to setup my NIC properly. i said ping localhost, and got something similar to this

64 octets from 127.0.0.1 ....

that aint the IP i specified, how can i check to see which nics are installed in linux?

also, netcfg doesnt work, im NEW to linux so i dont know the exact commands


btw, i REALLY appreciate you guys helping me

oh eya, i was going to use Redhat 7.0, but was warned of errors in the kernel, and was told mandrake is a better alternative
