Linux with Linksys Router

Has anyone been successful setting up a linux box thru a Linksys router?
I have a home network that I recently added cable and the linksys 4 port hub/router to. Everything was working fine before, linux box (mandrake 6.1) was talking and seeing the win boxes. Now that I went straight DHCP instead of static IP and changed from TCP/IP to Netbeui things have changed. I can ping from the linux box, even out to the net, including DSN look-up, but cant see it in the win machines. Samba loads ok, but NMB is having problems, cant recognize host name. Wierd.
Is it that Linux can only use tcp/ip and not netbeui? Should, I can ping. I think it is in the Samba set-up, I read many articles and books, but still cant get it right. I have made so many changes to my smb.conf and a few other files that I probably dont know what is "right" anymore.

any suggestions ?

Thanks

Three of the systems on my network are Mandrake boxes, running through switches in to the router. One, the server, is even running both WAN and LAN connections. Samba works fine.

BUT, I setup fixed IP addresses and masks on the Linux machines, rather then use the DHCP of the router, so I don't know if it would still work using DHCP.

Also, I set it up the easy way, using Webmin.
