Read this article Link , it's linux users like these that piss me off.

Apparently the guy went from Windows 98 to Linux and is now trying out Windows XP. And now he has forgotten how to use Windows. How is that possible. Throughout the article I get the feeling that my grandmother is trying to figure out Windows XP, and having a hard time. How dumb do you have to be to not understand how to create shortcuts on your taskbar?

He seems to be complaining about Microsoft software mostly, which has nothing to do with Windows XP. I don't know where he got his Laptop from, but every computer I bought has atleast come with a Word Processor and an email client.

Yes, I am sure Linux is so easy to use. Lets not forget installing software on linux, which is just a breeze. Oh and please don't get me started about the ease of sharing files over a network.

I find using Linux to be much easier than Windows, because my computer never gives me memory errors while I'm trying to install things. It also never hangs when I'm running a multitude of programs. Maybe its because I actually know how to use computers and compile everything from source, including my operating system. I concur, this guy is a moron for claiming to forget how to use Windows, especially since Windows is designed for the clueless computer users.

Unfortunately you use Kahakai not fluxbox. That makes you as bad as a windows user :p

The author does seem to feign ignorance a bit too much, and it comes off as being a bit tongue-in-cheek. And of course, any person, article, or anything else even vaguely related to slashdot should usually be taken with a grain of salt.

However, some of the underlying points are valid.

Just for the sake of being argumentative, TommyVercetti, I'll give you a first-hand experience of how hard it is to install something in linux. The stuff I have to type is in bold.

death@two ~ % sudo apt-get install rar
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
rar
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 8 not upgraded.
Need to get 240kB of archives.
After unpacking 483kB of additional disk space will be used.
Get:1 http://ftp.us.debian.org sarge/non-free rar 3.20-2 [240kB]
Fetched 240kB in 6s (39.7kB/s)
Selecting previously deselected package rar.
(Reading database ... 89816 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking rar (from .../archives/rar_3.20-2_i386.deb) ...
Setting up rar (3.20-2) ...
death@two ~ %

Pretty difficult. ;)

As far as sharing files goes, I'm guessing you're talking about samba, and samba is pretty easy as far as I know. But I've only messed around with it once in the past.

Fluxbox is the one that turned the blackbox toolbar into a windows-like taskbar. ;)

You're not black enough. Go hang out with the white folk. :p

That's some harsh intra-Linux discrimination you got goin' on there...

I'd have to say that Linux users like this piss me off more. My Windows XP machines have never given me an error while trying to install anything. They never hang when running a multitude of programs. Windows wasn't the problem here, YOU were the problem. I actually do know how to use computers and compile everything from source (I'm a software developer), not including my operating system of course, because I have absolutely no need to do that.

Windows is designed for clueless computer users. Any retard can double click an icon to get their email. I don't see how that's a bad thing. I don't want to have to do any more than that to do something that is so simple. However, with Windows you can do some amazing things, and if you take the time to read and study it as much as you have studied Linux, then you'll find that there's very little that you can't do in Windows.

My debian machine doesn't give me errors when trying to install anything. It never hangs or freezes. Linux isn't the problem, IDIOT NEWBIES are the problem. See where I'm going? :D

It's only partly about what you can do, it's also about how you do it. As much as you can tout the abilities of windows, it simply does not match up to other operating systems in many ways. It also surpasses them in other ways. Neither is necessarily better, they're just different. People are different, too.

With that said, it is literally painful for me to use windows. :)

Well, I went from Windows to Linux and back to Windows.

For one, except for Win98, I've never had a problem with instability in any of my OS's. I haven't personally seen a BSOD in 5 or 6 years.

IMO, Windows is much easier to use than Linux (close to latest Redhat distro). Granted, I've used Windows for a lot longer than Linux, but I had used Redhat for ~ a year, and in that time I never really felt comfortable with it.

I think the article is meant to be tongue in cheek but he comes off sounding overly condescending and mentally retarded.
