I am trying to get my modem working and it is dialing and going through its rounds but just doesnt connect at the end.
This wouldnt be a good question to ask however during the boot up process it tries to connect to the internet automatically
The boot process gets stuck at this point and keeps trying to dial into my ISP. I tried going into failsafe and disabling the
auto-connect but i didnt know where to go to do it. I am running Mandrake 8.1 with KDE using Kppp as the dialer program..

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks all

The bootup issue is most likely your computer trying to use DHCP in order to get its IP. You only need to do this if you have DSL and some forms of cable. I cannot help to much on the KPP issue, as I use DSL. Just make sure your network card has the right modules built into the kernel or loaded as modules.

The problem is with the dialer. Since it is dialing in a continuous loop
looking for a connection. If I could disable to auto-connect-at-boot
then It would boot up fine.. Any ideas out there?

????????

????????

If it really is trying to connect on startup, there would be a script in /etc/init.d (I think) using a dialer other than kppp.
