Not sure if this is the right place...but

I'm going to need to use my computer for work and I really need to windows back onto it. Only thing is I have some information in Sylpheed and GNUCash that I want imported in windows. It doesnt matter what program I use in windows just as long as I have it imported there. Does anyone have any ideas on how I would go about doing that?

Thanks!

A quick search turned up gnucash to qif which should export GNUCashes data to qif format, which then could be imported into something like Quickbooks or whatnot.

Don't know, don't use Gnucash or anything like that. But it seems to make sense to me.

Why can't you just dual boot, and use Linux for your normal stuff and switch to windows for what you need to get done at work? Maybe even Wine would be usefull for you.

But whatever. You do what you want. :)

edit:

here is a third party port of Sylpheed to Win32. Not officially part of the sylpheed project, though.

here is a english version

I beleive you can export to mbox format and then import that format into Outlook.

Beware using outlook however, it uses a propriatory file format that is unable to be proccessed by other programs due to liscencing reasons. If you put a lot into it and Outlook screws up then the data contained in it's files can be rendered unobtainable thru reasonable means. Outlook Express doesn't have this problem so much it uses a more generic format.

mbox is a pretty standard format, I beleive. I don't know much about e-mail, never used it a whole lot personally. But Mbox should accepted for import for most e-mail programs.

And Thunderbird uses mbox format for it's own mail files.

thunder FAQ talks a bit about the importing and exporting various formats and different programs. Seems like Eudora (Netstape's e-mail client) also uses mbox, so many converters and e-mail clients may use other mbox formats as long as you tell them that it's a eudora file. Or something like that.

With Outlook you can be safe as far as data loss as long as you remember to backup everything everyonce and a while. Still doesn't solve the problems with worms and viruses and such that you can get from using it though.

I thought Sylpheed had that capability built in. Just go and check out the file menu and choose export then export to mbox, or something like that.
