linux suggestions

im looking to install linux and im just wondering what version i should go with

im an avid gamer but gaming isnt the reason i wanna install it.. i just wanna learn how to be linux-literate

that being said.. i would like to install a version that is 'game friendly'

any suggestions?

Red Hat is easy to configure and learn. Lycoris is much easier for those who are used to Windows XP. There are probably easier distrobutions out there.

mandrake rocks, only thing i had to set up on it when i installed in my main rig (secondary os) was the nvidia drivers
it sets up everything else great, sound, network, ntfs reading
easy to configure, set up, lots of available packages (programs) to use, different desktop environments to try (though i stick with kde)

great distro, only 3 iso to download. me likey 🙂

Mandrake web site, documentation. Everything u need there in html or pdf. Covers installing, setup, applications....

Mandrake is pretty nice. I prefer Slackware myself, but that's probably not the best to start with. Redhat is decent too. -Tal

I first started learning on Manrake 7, then gave up, started again on RH 7.2, then gave up. Then most recently started on Slack9 and I'm still going, and have learned QUITE a bit. For me, it seemed that the easiest newbie version may not have been the best choice because it didn't force me, right off the bat, to learn more about linux.
