Linux sound cards

Which sound card is the best choice for Linux. I don't think the Philips AE has any drivers out there, I've heard people say that the Santa Cruz is supported, but haven't seen any proof, and I don't really want to go with a SB Live, since I also want to run windows, and the SB has been having some problems with athlon systems. Any advice?

Uh, I think the Aureal cards are actually not too bad for Linux/Win98 dual boot boxes. The Linux drivers are pretty good now I think, and even though Aureal is out of business the last batch of Win98 drivers worked pretty well also. And MS is supposedly working on WinXP drivers for the card also. You can probably find the card for about $25 or so.

I had to compile the drivers myself for aureal, but that was a few distros ago

Right now I have my Santa Cruz working in Mandrake 8, but I haven't tried any of the other ports, just the standard 2-speaker thing.

is there a way to have AC97 working fine at esd games at linux ?

with oss driver, it runs perfect, but when in quakeforge ... the sound is horrible ...

as in everything but quakeforge the sound card works perfect, so is it really a QF problem ?

they said was not ... but ...
