Linux SoB question

Hey all, just signed up for SoB, but I can't seem to get the Linux client running. I signed up for an account using their web-based signup and then I downloaded their client. I edited sclient.conf and then I tried running it with ./sb sclient.conf and I get this:

[Sun Apr 20 00:40:07 2003] client process [v1.0.2] invoked
[Sun Apr 20 00:40:07 2003] priority set to idle
[Sun Apr 20 00:40:07 2003] connecting to server
[Sun Apr 20 00:40:07 2003] couldn't get block from server [can't connect], retrying in 1200 secs

I'm pretty sure the server isn't having problems because I set it up on my Win2k machine and connected just fine. This is on a fresh install of RH9.0. Thanks in advance!

Looks like a problem with your network setup. Can you ping the other computers on your network? How about forums.anandtech.com?

Everything network-wise seems ok, I can web browse, start up gaim, I already set up a Samba server with all of my files and also connected to a printer on one of my other computers.

Well I finally got it to connect by explicitly putting in the ip address, but now I get this error:
[Sun Apr 20 02:19:10 2003] client process [v1.0.2] invoked
[Sun Apr 20 02:19:10 2003] priority set to idle
[Sun Apr 20 02:19:10 2003] connecting to server
[Sun Apr 20 02:19:11 2003] logging into server
[Sun Apr 20 02:19:11 2003] requesting a block
[Sun Apr 20 02:19:16 2003] got proth test from server (k=10223, n=3503657)
[Sun Apr 20 02:19:16 2003] server packet cached to disk
Segmentation fault

I read about the newer clients segfaulting and that maybe I should try an older version. Do you have a preferred version?

I use 1.0.2 and it works fine for me. It's possible that your segfault may be caused by an excessive overclock. Either that, or your distro uses some fvcked-up glibc, which may vary well be the case with a redhat distro. You could try an older version (of sb) if you want, but I reccommend using a different distro. 🙂

hehe, yeah might be the distro, I was planning to eventually try out debian, but I wanted mess around with Red Hat 9.0. I finally got it to work with version 1.0 of the client I think...I'll just let it run over and see how it goes. Thanks for all your help Electrode!
