I manage my own dedicated server and may possibly get more in the future (if I get into web hosting or what not).
I'd like to setup some kind of site to site VPN so I can access all of those servers as if they were local, through a secure tunnel. I'm thinking, make those servers VPN servers, then have a central server on my home LAN have an always on VPN connection to each one at the same time. I would then use this for various tasks such as monitoring, backups, etc.
How easy/hard would this be to setup and what software would I need? I'm hoping for something free. Let's assume all servers are Linux.
Also would it be better to have my LAN server be a VPN server and have the servers connect to it instead?
I don't have too much experience with VPNs in general but do have a general understanding of how they work, this would be a neat project to take on I think.
