I started useing a computer about 4 years ago. I use mine about 6-10 hours a day. Cause im at home all day with nothing to do. I usually play on the internet mess about with programs like pro shop and MMORPG (Everquest etc). I've wanted to learn something different. Ive always heard linux mentioned everywhere i went when a computer was mentioned. What is the difference in Linux and windows? Also what is linux? A program that allows you to edit windows for your beenfit of freedom? Or is it totally different OS. Is the games i play going to be compatiable for linux? Im curious and always wanting to learn something new. Anything and everything you can tell me is appreciated. Also any books i can read up on it? Would be greeatly appreciated also

99% of your games won't run on linux, so if you want to use linux for playing games, stay with windows. If you want a free alternative to windows and don't mind reading a bit then check out these links:

What is linux?

As for a distro, I can recommend the new Mandrake 9.0 and Debian.
