on mandrake or kde homepage, they allow download for their iso. all for free?

also, would i be ask a cd key when installing?

Free, and you don't need any cdkeys.
You don't need to download Mandrake and KDE, just grab Mandrake iso (or better, try Knoppix).

Mandrake Linux 9.0 Package list
Scroll down to see a bunch of kde stuff.

This list would hold true (mostly) for other 9.x releases also, except that the package versions would be higher.
I hope you know where to download the iso's.
If not, search the OS forum :)

Now about that Beer....
