I have an 486 (w/580mb hard drive) and i was wondering if i could run linux on it? Will it be possible?

If so, which version of linux can i use??


sorry but i am a complete idiot when comes to Linux.

First of all, what do you want to use your computer for, such that it requires the use of linux? From there, we can work and see what linux release looks good for you.

linux would probably fit, but you wouldn't be able to use any GUI interface.

command line only, true. But if you're a linux newbie (i.e. straight from Win 9X), then you may want the gui (it helps). if you want the gui, you need at least 1GB for a HD.

Yes, i am a Linux newbie, IDIOT might works! :D

Well, basically i hope to get as many features of Linux as possible. The reason i want to run Linux on it because i want to learn about Linux. :)

GUI certaily will be helpful but i can live without it.


So, which release is the best for me? (Most features/function but without GUI, since i guess GUI might require lots of HD space)
