i currently have windows installed on my hd... but i downloaded and burned gentoo to a disk, and i want to install it.... so i need to create a new partition on my hd correct? cuz i wanna have both gentoo and windows... how do i do this?

Yes, you do need another partition. One way to do this is with fdisk, but the Gentoo install disk should have a partition tool included with it that will help you during the installation.

Before you do anything, defragment your drive and make backups of important files!

Go to gentoo's website they have a step by step guide on what you have to do. They include directions on how to make partitions. Read thru it carefully. If there are still any questions you can probably come back and ask something specific. They realy do a good job of it, and there are other howtos and guides that explain partitions much better then I could ever hope to do...

Nope ... 😀

After reading some of the install instructions, it looks like you will use fdisk with Gentoo.
