😕

Just for kicks and giggles I'm trying to get Linux Mandrake 9.0 to run on an old Pentium Pro 200 . I boot off the floppy and hit enter it starts to load . The bar graph arcoss the bottom gets about 3/4 of the way and then the screen goes blank . Everything I read the computer should be plenty for a minimum install .

Pentium Pro 200
64 megs of ram
matrox milenium video card
42max CD rom

The machine runs fine under NT 4.0 , 95 and 98
I'm new at this and using this as a learning tool .

Thanks Kdiver

🙂

It is still in text mode and I haven't done the text install . Looks like I need to do some more work. It also looks like a 1 gig drive is on the small side . Well since I posted I put the drive in my main computer and saw what it was doing . It looks like the old video card I am using is not supported. Time for me to do some more work . Thanks .. Kdiver

im guessing the card was an isa card?

some isa cards dont like to be probed and just lock up the machine when they do, thats probably what happened.

😉

It's an old Matrox Millenium PCI . I went to the Matrox site and looked at drivers and compatability and it said "none planned" . I then went to the Mandrake Linux site and the Millenium is not listed just the Millenium II . I went out and bought a ATI PCI card and am getting ready to install it as we speak. I'll let you know . Thanks for your help. Kdiver
