Linux on XPPro Installation

I want to install Redhat 7.3 on my notebook. I have only one partition on my disk. It has XPPro installed.

Will RedHat remove XP from it?
Should I install Redhat as workstation or notebook?

I believe it will do it either way. You can get rid of XP or have it create another partition for linux and have both available.

I suppose the idea of notebook is that it will take up less room as compared to workstation.

You'll need something like Partition Magic if you want the OS's to share the disk - the free linux tools cannot resize NTFS partitions. If you don't want XP on there at all, that would be easiest. Just tell the installer to use the whole disk, and it will wipe out the old partitions.

As for a "notebook" install, I'm not certain, but I think it's basically the same as the workstation one, plus PCMCIA and power management packages.

Assuming it's NTFS, some companies ship XP Home with FAT32...

It is NFS.
Do I need Partition Magic ?
If yes then I will check ebay/yahoo auctions.

If you want you can play around with zipslack. Its a small version of linux avaible from slackware.com

It has command line only and you won't get all the bells and whistles that are avaible from a modern distro, but it will run from a fat32 and it will sit in its own folder. + its less then a hundred megs....

Its just a bare bones version only command line, but their are addons you can get for xwindows....

It's bad because it is not very freindly to a windows user, but then again you don't have to worry about frying your partitions.

It won't work if you have a ntfs partition though
