i'm a newbie to linux, and recently i just install red hat in my system. I was wondering how to configure the modem.
Any suggestion would be appreciated, thanks.

What type of modem do you have? If it's a winmodem.. a modem with no hardware controllers that uses software to run.. like many of today's modems, especially 3Com and USR. If it is it probably won't work with linux(correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not totally up to date) but last I checked winmodems still haven't really caught up.

Does it show up as a com port in windows? if so it's hardware, else winmodem. And TheVrolock, some windmodems (most notably the very popular Lucent Winmodem) are supported under linux. Just check www.linmodems.org.
