I tried to install Vmware server on Ubuntu 7.04. I accidentally hit forward or okay without entering a serial number. When I tried to go back the install froze, and I couldn't get it to close or continue. So I tried what everybody does with Windows, I rebooted. Maybe there is a better option in linux, but again I am a newb.

So I reboot and try the install via synaptic again. When do that I get an error saying this
E:Dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem
E:_cache->open()failed, please report.

Well I opened a terminal window and ran that command, and it started going through the vmware install, but inside the terminal window. When it got to the point where I can input the serial number, I can do that, but no way of click or selecting OK, it is just text, not a button or anything. What am I doing wrong? How do I get back to the Graphical installer for vmware, rather then having it try to install inside a terminal window. Or how do I select okay in the terminal window?

Thanks

Just hit enter after you enter the serial number. I've never even seen a graphical installer for VMWare...

I believe I tried just hitting enter, but I will try it again. When I first started installing it via synaptic, a separate box popped up asking for the serial number. the box had forward, back and cancel buttons. I don't know if you would really call thata graphical installer, but it was more then just text in the terminal window.

I haven't used anything but the stuff directly from VMWare since it's not packaged for Debian. If it's packaged for Ubuntu those are probably debconf questions, running 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure <packagename>' should restart it and I believe stuff started from sudo can use your X session.

I tried just hitting enter after putting in the serial, and it did work this time. But it pretty much ended the install at that point. It put me back at the command prompt(is that what it is called in lunux?). Where does it install to? I don't see it in the applications menu anywhere

Never mind, found it in system tools. Thanks
