Linux Mobo Recommendation

I am currently in the process of constructing a home Linux box that will run Suse 7.3. It will be used for a small game server and desktop apps such as gimp, email, web browsing. I would like some recommendations on which motherboards provide good performance with the least amount of headache setting up. I would like something stable and fast, there will be no overclocking going on. Also, I have thought about a dual cpu setup but I get mixed reviews on price vs. performance. I am looking too spend around $200-$300 on the cpu and mobo. Suse's hardware databse is ancient and most of the boards they list are extremely hard to find or are still pretty expensive on Pricewatch. I don't care if it is AMD orIntel. Please help!!!!!
