Linux Mandrake 8.1 and Iwill XP333-R?

First off I have two WD 100 7200rpm HDs in raid with a partition of 170 gigs and 30 gigs. I?ve been saving the 30 gigs for mandrake, well today I got on to installing it but I ran into a problem. Right when I got to installing it I received a Kernel panic error. I played around with some options then I got to disable raid and well Linux started to install but didn?t detect any drives (this is because raid is disabled). Is there any way to install mandrake 8.1 on that 30 gig partition without resorting to the south bridge IDE controllers.

I ran into the same error with Red Hat, I just added a "no athlon" switch to GRUB/LILO and it worked. Im not to keen on Linux yet(Im working on it) but heres the link to the Red Hat fix, might work for mandrake I dunno...

Kernel Panic

er ok...guess I read youre question wrong. You cant even install. *Shrug* I guess I need more knowledge to be of more help😀

Get a better quality raid device? Forget raid since you probably dont utilize it all that well? Check to see if there are drivers for your raid card yet? Well, whatever you do, dont tell us what kind of raid card that is because then we might be able to skip the reading your mind part 😉

You know the floppy that came with the board has the linux drivers don't you? You just pop it in, and let it build a Linux LILO boot disk.

If you're using the AMI RAID floppy, set your PC to boot off the floppy drive, put it in, and it will start loading LILO. ( From startup of course ) After that it will ask you what Linux driver disks you want to produce.
