linux ISO CDs not working

lately
I downloaded iso images of DEBIAN linux "potato-disc1.iso" to disc-5.iso frpm "i386" folder of ftp sites. Burnt each one of them on seperate CDs. Tried installing it with CDROM as first boot drive. The first CD didn;t work. Its not booting. I tried in 5 different machines. Same problem. downloaded iso images again from different FTP site. burnt them. Problem still persists.

Then I downloaded Redhat 8 iso images. Did the same thing. Same problem.

Question:
Is it correct what I am doing? I mean burning iso images on each CD and trying to boot with the CD having first iso images. If not then what is the correct way of using them?

I have waisted around 20 CDRs. Please help.

Are you using NERO? or which burning program? You are not creating CD's that have an ISO file on them are you? You want to create a CD FROM the ISO.... Using Nero, goto Create CD from Image. Disk Juggler & EZ CD creator should be able to do the same thing.
