Wonder if anyones stupid enough to buy it.... and believe what half the descriptions say. "EASY TO SET UP AND USE" "SIMPLER THAN WINDOWS XP" "THE BEST OS IN THE WORLD"
Also wonder what they would do when they realise its free to download.

Some of you may actually agree with those descriptions  you really shouldnt though :p

I agree. In example, Fedora has a graphical installer from start to finish (albiet not including the optional disk check)

Windows ain't got nothin on that

I once paid $ 3.82 to have a Simply Mepis CD mailed to me. I also had 5 Ubuntu CDs sent
out to me free. I donated $ 20.00 back and felt good about it.

the only thing that windows really has over linux is gaming support( which includes drivers etc) which is why I use windows....the moment that Linux can run my favourite games I will be there but until that day I have no use for a clone of windows!

The problem is that most people havent ever installed XP. Nor could they figure it out.

Personally, I think all of the people buying/selling MMORPG accounts on eBay are much stupider, over $100 for a lvl 60 WoW character with everything already finished and on top of that you now get to pay for one more account's monthly fee.

I have no use for a clone of windows!

If you truly believe that Linux is a Windows clone, you're extremely misinformed.

When Linux gets gaming support.. I'll be so there.

Linux has great gaming support. It's the game producer's that don't support Linux. Look at Epic and id, they're known for producing some of the best FPS engines of all time and they manage to support Linux, although epic isn't as good about it as id is.

Ok maybe "clone" isn't the correct term......but I have played with linux a bit and have found nothing that linux can do for me(not necessarily everyone) that windows can't do as well or better......plus windows has the better support for the games that I want to play!

An enitre listing of it. Its a good idea actually as its free... and people will buy it. Just like the "free internet TV" thing that my friend bought, it was only £1 (can be downloaded free also). But taking into account all the people who would pay £1 and believe theyre gonna get quality tv from the net including sky one, sky sports etc, you would make a lotta money.

stop playing so many games, and you will find MANY uses for linux that are hard to find on windows. Open source stuff replaces thousands of dollers every day for me.

What surprises me is that people who know enough to look for Linux on E-Bay don't know enough to go to a distro's site and download the same thing.

Edit: I have to admit that I've looked on E-Bay every now and then for a copy of Corel Linux 2.0 Deluxe, which is not available for download, just to get the version of WordPerfect for Linux that comes with it.

I'm sure it's for people that either have dialup access, or just want to buy a CD/DVD rather than burn it.

I would be wary of the latter, but it's their dime...

You know whats sad in this discussion. We compare the pros and cons of two OS packages, and the 50+ Billion dollar company version has the advantage of better game support with an API they wrote. The free one meanwhile is getting better at supporting those and other APIs.

Linux does a lot of things better, I cringe everytime I have to use a Windows box now because of the lack of included tools and how difficult MS makes everything.

The difference between you and me nothinman is that you obviously use your computer for more of what it is intended for than me....and maybe some gaming too, but gaming isn't your main concern.....I am the opposite....I do more gaming than anything else and a bit of encoding, DVD watching, Programming etc etc etc on the side when I can be bothered....

Our requirements for a PC are completely different and so hence the OS that we choose is completely different....As I said earlier....once the major gaming support is there then I will be there too..because for most things linux is windows' equal but for the stuff I want I can do just as well with windows at the moment!

And the support for that stuff won't be there until people migrate to it.

Gee, thanks soviet. I need a copy of Linux, and I'm stuck on dial-up; no broadband access available here. Does that make me "stupid enough to buy it" or are you just so stupid you don't realize that broadband isn't universal?

For what it's worth, I wouldn't give my location up for broadband access either.
