Linux: HowTo disable Ctrl-Alt-Backspace & Shift-Backspace

OK, I know my post is redundant, but Slackware, you really are probably best off being extra careful wording your posts. Also, I recommend you think before you post.

In Linux,
loadkeys NAME_OF_KEYMAP ... will load a keymap to the console or terminal. It never affected xf86 and it doesn't affect xorg.

In BSD
wsconsctl -w encoding=???????? or just modify /etc/wsconsctl.conf ... It never affects X.

to change X, it's the same no matter what host OS or distro.

I only know this because I have used IBM Model M keyboards remapped to the Dvorak layout on Linux & BSD. I also set up my old xf86 as well as more recent xorg installs to use Dvorak.

A few other mentions ...
Slackware ... Change your name. I am sure you took that as your Anandtech forum name out of respect for Peter's work, but you sorta give a bad name to Slackware. It is my favorite linux distro, and I don't like to see it being made fun of.

Robor ... thanks for sharing your solution.

Nothinman ... stop stalking "slackware" 😉

Yea, seeing whole threads where every post had the devil attached to it was confusing sometimes.

Okay, everyone who's a regular in OS now change to the Devil avatar! 😛

Seriously though, I think it was just last week that I asked n0cmonkey if he changed his avatar from the Devil. Apparently he did - a LONG time ago. Yeah, I'm real observant... 😛

Wouldn't it be nice if everybody did? 😀

I never noticed, and I'm older than both of them (in ATF years)! I was not very regular for a long time though, if my anti-1337 post count didn't give that away. 🙁

The biggest geek award? Wasn't it like 3 or 4 in the morning over there when you posted this? (here's hoping I'm not online posting here in 3 or 4 hours  )

Indeed it was, I had just finished my drunken adventures for the evening and had a look in here 🙂

Well, I guess that's better than me. I'd finished my semi-drunken adventures by midnight, and I'm still in university. 🙁

Well, my memory already sucks so much, I can't imagine it's possible for it to get much worse, so while that arthritis is tempting, I'll go with the Alzheimer's.

Ha, yeah, sometimes I think I already have that, too.

Nah, we're the same AT age. The question is, how long were you around before FuseTalk? Remember the old days when the site would go down and we would lose our previous post counts? Remember when it went down and we had to recreate our accounts? Ah, the good ole' days... 😛

Oh yeah, good ole UBB 😉

Don't know when I regged really, I visited AT back in the Geocities days, but I didn't register on the forums until a while after they became available.
I'd say anyone who will know the significance of the sentence "Is there such a thing as a God?" to AT could consider themselves old timers by most any definition 😉

Was that an OT topic from the old days? I must confess I wasn't (and still am not for that matter) a big visitor of OT. I originally came to Anandtech for information I found in a search for a problem motherboard. I can't remember exactly when that was though.

Nah, it was the topic that resulted in the creation of "General Non-Hardware", or as it's currently known, Off Topic 🙂

Ah, either that was before me or I didn't pay attention to it. I wouldn't bother with a thread like that though. It's a no win situation that only results in a bunch of wasted time.

Original post updated to include fix for 'Shift-Backspace' GDM restarts. I think this was actually the real culprit for my problems with GDM restarts. 😉 😛
