OK, so I created a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit guest VM that is running on a Linux Mint 18 Host environment. I noticed that all of the resolutions available within the guest environment are 4:3 aspect. Any way to change this? The physical monitor I am using is a 1920x1200 and anything closer to that resolution but with 16:10 you be preferred.

I guess it really depends on how you have configured this. Are you doing any kind of GPU passthrough (i.e. you have an Intel/AMD CPU which has a built-in GPU as well as having a standalone Nvidia or AMD GPU (like a 1080GTX etc)? What hypervisor are you using (is it indeed Virtualbox or are you using Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM))?

If you are doing GPU passthrough, all you need to do is hook up your monitor to the GPU that you have configured to be part of that VM and it will act as a normal video card. Obviously it helps to have multiple inputs to your monitor as you would need to toggle between them to see the host OS vs the VM.
