What OS is on the drive that is the master on the IDE channel? If it's Windows, boot from a floppy that has "fdisk.exe" on it and do "fdisk /mbr". This will let you get back into Windows but will overwrite LILO so you won't be able to get back into Linux without a little bit of work.

No, it's different from the rescue disks. If you're on a 98 machine make a boot floppy by formating and selecting the copy system files option. Then just copy fdisk.exe onto the floppy (just search for it and cut and paste). If you're in 2k, download a 98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com - it should have fdisk.exe on it.

Boot up Linux and type 'rpm -q lilo' and 'rpm -q grub'

One of them should give you a version number, that'll say whether lilo or grub is installed.

sounds like the problem lies somewhere between the chair and the keyboard. try looking there and report back ;)

Find menu.lst (believe it's in /boot/grub) and add the lines:

title Windows
rootnoverify (hd0,1)
makeactive
chainloader +1

On the second line, change the hd number and partition number to match the ones were you have Windows installed.

Yes hd0 is the first hard disk and 1 means the first partition, that should be what you need.

As long as you don't put them in the middle of the Linux entry you should be able to put them anywhere.

Oh yea, change 1 to 0 for the partition number, not sure what I was thinking, 0 is first partition.
