Hello - I am currently using Linux for Windows by Mandrakesoft and I am having some trouble with Linux recognizing my sound card and modem . I have started work on another pc that I would like to install Linux on to learn with .I would like some suggestions for sound cards , video cards ,and modems that work well with Linux (i.e. I do not have to load drivers for) . I have an extra 3 Com nic that I know is recognized off the bat .
Thanks in advance - Danzig ;)

Video card - expecting that you do not want something big, good & expensive, go for 4-8M ATI cards.
Sound card - SB PCI64, SB PCI128, ISA SB cards
Modems - any external
