Excellent! I don't think it's quite ready for "production" use quite yet, though, as there are a few changes I would like to see made(especially the stuff n0cmonkey is working on, sounds quite cool)

The automatic configuration is beyond me at this point, so don't expect it. The script I'm working on should be almost ready. A few more changes, a couple of google searches, a few more changes, and some testing.

262 lines and growing.

Most of it is VERY redundant, but I think md5 checks are worth it.

So far the "features" I have in my script are:

• md5sum checks are nearly every step (Yes, I'm paranoid).
  "Custom" flags with either a custom.cfg file (a single line txt file containing just the flags you want) for smb/nfs/http setups or entering them on the command line.
  smb/nfs setups for people that are just ready to crunch.
  http for storing the client.cfg and custom.cfg.

Untested so far:

• 
  Pretty much everything.
  smb -can't remember for sure how to mount smb shares, I'll figure this out shortly with a little help from google. It will still be untested, but it will be "more likely to work."
  nfs -Never done NFS on Linux, so I'll be googling this one. This will be easier for me to test since I have NFS setups.
  http -Don't see why it won't work at the moment, but I can't test it here.
  The script over all. There are most likely typos and stupid monkey tricks in there that won't work. I'll try to test the script when I get home.

Hopefully this weekend I'll have a chance to clean it up, test it all out, and integrate it with a live cd distro. So anyone that wants to test, fiddle, or just read and laugh at my horrible scripting skills can pm me. I can send it email (copy&paste into the email because I don't have a Unix compatible text editor at work isgust or just in the PM (copy&paste).

Also, "feature requests" are welcome. Nothing too complex, and no guarentees. I don't mind trying though.

Hopefully by v3 (this is v2, v1 is unfinished and unreleased ) I can encorporate atleast one or two other projects into the same script so we can help out all of the projects, although this script should work almost perfectly with a minimum of changes.

Oh, and lastly, if you care about "software copyright licenses" like I do, I'm thinking I'll release the script under the beer license. Just for fun.

I don't think this would go into your script, but, I'm wondering how to get the nforce2 NIC module into this distro. would placing the module from a mandrake 10.0 box work? I was thinking put it on the box, modprobe it into the kernel, just before networking, and then, after the network is up, run an lsmod, and cut out the in use column, and check if it's a zero or not. if it's a zero, remove it. would this work? if this is all linux stuff, and you don't know, then that's ok, and I'll go ask at linuxquestions.org(remember that I haven't ran BSD, either)

about the smb stuff, just check out the man file for smbclient.('man smbclient' ). remember, that the format for the computer location is: //WORKGROUP/COMPUTERNAME/SHARENAME - you can also leave out the workgroup, if you want, and make it //COMPUTERNAME/SHARENAME

I avoid as much proprietary crap as possible. aka, I don't know.

Mandrake 10 is using a 2.6 kernel, isn't it? Has any of the 2.4 kernels had the driver back ported? Does the 2.6 kernel have a non-proprietary driver for the card?

I was thinking about using a 2.6 kernel (if I can find the right modules for it) in an iso I was going to make. So if the right modules are available, I'll consider it again if there is a driver for that NIC.

From the google example I found, all I needed was mount -t smb -o username=$USER,-password=$PASS $SMB /mnt or whatever. I'll definitely give it a shot when I get ready to set this all in motion. I'll steal my bother's computer for a couple of hours or something and leech is filez.

It looks like the realtek 8139 drivers in the Mandrake 10 distro don't work with the modified nForce NICs.

It's not really called the GBL.

The GPL module for the nforce2 nic is called forcedeth.o

That's what I was looking at when I get around to re-doing this. I think the script is work-able now (practically rewrote the whole thing), and I'll be burning a test copy soon. When I get a chance, I'll be playing with linux-live.

Alright, my first attempt was a failure, and I ran out of cdrs

What cdrecord flags are you using? Anything I should know about (I'm dumb with cdrecord)?

I'll try it again, maybe tonight. I'll be trying to pick up more cdrs today.

I'm running the 2.6 kernel, so drop the ATAPI: part of it if you are running the 2.4 kernel
and, you had better check that the device is correct, you really don't want to overwrite your HD. anyway, I have a script named burn that looks like this(I use sudo):

sudo cdrecord -v -eject speed=8 dev=ATAPI:0,0,0 $1

I use speed=8 just for the best burn, as I've got a few wearing out cdrom drives...

I've tried, for 2 nights, to download it but nothing. How long do I have to wait until it starts downloading? I let it sit there for about 10 minutes until I got frustarted and shut it down.

I tried burning my disk again and it still craps out on boot. I tried the original, and it did the same thing. I'll try again tonight if I get up early or tomorrow morning.

If you can,leave it overnight. My laptop got unplugged so I was offline after the battery died.
