Linux GUI wont boot up, only command window

Im a total beginner with linux and ive installed suse 9.3 and was rebooting the system after i was poking around in KDE. Once i rebooted it no longer comes to the log in screen, but rather a command prompt that says:

linux login: _

how do i get back to my graphical interface from this command line thingie and how the heck did i get here.. did i break it?

Login as 'root' with the user name 'root' and the root password.
Then execute command and then 'sax2 -m 0=vesa'.

You should be able to configure your video from there.
