I was amazed to find Quake 3 (tin box ver.) for Linux for only $10, are games for linux usually this cheap? Of course I had to get it but the problem is I don't know a thing about Linux, would it run as well on my hardware (dual Celerons/Geforce2MX) compared to W2K? The game also came with a copy of SuSE Linux 6.3, is this an ideal version to install?

If you upgrade SuSe 6.3 to the latest version (7.1) with the 2.4 kernel and the 4.x version of Xfree86 things will go even smoother. You can use the FTP server of SuSe (ftp.suse.com) or one of the mirrors to upgrade if you've a broadband connection or some spare time ;)

I'll probably run comparable or a bit slower than with Win2k since X isn't perfected yet.

The best version of Linux (imo) would be the newest SuSE (8.?). Certainly get it if you know nothing about linux and are interested in learning. As for the game it will need some patches befor it works right (i think) and yes in general games are cheaper for Linux but tend to be more problematic.

Linux is pretty tough to get into but the newest version of SuSE (7.1 i guess) is supposed to be GREAT for newbies and olbies alike :) I tried Mandrake 7.2 and it was verry easy to install and dual boot but i never could get it working quite right (event after they sent me the update cd).

Yup, SUSE 7.0 / 7.1 is great fun. With YAST (Yet Another Setup Tool - no kidding either) (text-based install-GUI) and YAST2 ("more wooo-factor" fancy install-GUI) thinks are reasonably simple to install. They've got a heck of a lot of stuff to offer for their distribution.

You definately get more stuff for your bucks than with RedHat (And I think they've got better support / www-pages) :D.

Definately, SUSE is recommendable :).
