Linux FTP Permissions... Help!

How can I give read/write permission to a FTP user without using X. I already have the folder set up and I can FTP in just fine and read all the files I just can't make additions.

Is your ftp site set up so that there is an ftp user/group on your system?

Wherever your FTP directory is, go to it and type ls -l.

Does it look anything like this? :

-rw-r--r-- 1 ftp root 2517933 May 7 04:36 sandra.zip
if so, then you can copy files to that directory and type
chown ftp.root sandra.zip
chmod u+r sandra.zip

and ftp users should be able to read the file.

The way it works now anyone with an account on the server can ftp in and get their home directory, which is how I want it. I will try what you said, thanks.

chmod u+w dirname

that will work won't it? hehe

that will give write privs to the user for the directory name

change it to chmod u+rw dirname for both read and write access

but I might be wrong on this...
