linux for old hp

I have acquired an old HP agency series HSTNN-C02C laptop recently. It came with win xp tablet pc edition. and i want to know if anyone has a recommendation for a version of linux that will keep the functionality of the laptop tablet conversions with the touchscreen.

obviously this is an old piece of hardware but still functional. just want linux for it but also to keep the conversion functionality. otherwise i will attempt to maintain the old version of xp and maintain it as securely as possible.

i have done some internet exploration on the subject and have come across references to xubuntu and lubuntu. just wondering if anyone had real experience with either?

Those are both fine distros. Whether or not they're compatible with your machine, I don't know. The touchscreen would be my biggest concern. Your best bet would be download some distros, and try them out via bootable usb.

You can try live versions of the different linux distros. Run from a USB or dvd/cd.
If they recognize your hardware and things work then try an install. Make an XP backup first.

Go with Xubuntu 14.04LTS can't go wrong,if it accepts PAE ! , i have a Pentium M, i wish i could install xubuntu 14.04 but mine doesn't install PAE systems,it's non PAE, you could also try Linux Mint 17.1, it goes both way PAE and Non PAE.
