Linux Fans

Linux seems to be good for servers and normal users who need/like more control. If you only surf the web and type documents, then windows is just fine. If you keep up with the windows updates then everything will be ok. Sure, you can take the time to learn another OS, but if all you're going to do is surf the web and type documents the effort isi really not worth your time.

If you want to play games without any hassle, windows is the way to go. That's the main reason I don't use linux. I like having more control, but I need my video game fix!

This is soooooooo wrong. If you only surf and type documents, Linux is FAR better than Windows. You don't need to pay hundreds for XP and a good system that can run it, and you don't have to pay for the office programs. The only main uses for Windows is if you game often... otherwise Linux can offer everything Windows can, at far better prices (how much better can you get than free?) and much better performance.

windows is mostly just good for games, though I am kinda impartial to newsbin pro and winamp too. (though i know XMMS is very capable)

My grandma runs Linux. Last christmas I built her a 1700+ Athlon XP system and installed Redhat with Open Office. She has even figured out how to do digital photos. This christmas I'm giving her a year of cable modem service and a linksys router. She also keeps her contacts for Christmas cards using OO, and prints labels using her computer. She asks me why people buy MS Windows, I tell her "I don't know grandma".

You need "more control" ? you have NO control over windows. Linux has some problems but not playing games is not one of them. If you have to purchase a operating system most would elect linux. It only takes a couple of evenings to figure out how to use it. I will admit though XP is pretty sweet but also pretty darn pricey.
