Hey all, I'm looking to try out a new dc project on my p4 2.4 red hat server with 256 megs of ram. I'm a DF kinda guy, but running it with the extra ram options sort of lags it. I know I could turn off the extra ram, but then I would feel like I'm not being as productive as I could be. I'm still going to run DF on my other computer and I run Seti on a lot of work machines. Are there any other projects out there with a good linux client that doesn't take up too much ram? Thanks in advance!

I don't know how much RAM your project is using, but according to my box, the Windows folding@home command line client under wine looks to be taking about 75MB of space while it's running.

Distributed.net RC5-72 and OGR are excellent in both Windows and linux world. :)

The F@H Linux client should take up slightly less RAM, but then again it is somewhat (a good deal) slower than the Windows client under WINE. I guess it just depends on how much work you feel like doing for a little more performance. If you do run F@H, be sure to use the -advmethods switch to try to get some work units using the beta Gromacs core; Gromacs is much better optimized for the Pentium 4 than the Tinker core.

I think I'll do SOB right for now. I like that name and I see lots of old buddies on the TeAm. *waves*
