linux + cox.net wont go online PLS HELP

if youve made this connection successfull or not, pls lmk. I open up the internet connection wizard,
(drakenet in my mandrake 8.1 box) and click auto detect. next page gives me the choice lan connection or
cable connection, and ive tried each one. next page, i check auto ip. nbext page, it says hostname= localhost/localdowmain. CONNECTION FAILED. pls help I dnt wanna go back to the evil empire m$
windoze.
ps: if your having this problem too, lmk and we'll work together on this.
