From a sys-admin perspective, is usermod what most use/recommend for managing users from a shell prompt?

Still trying to get more comfortable w/o using Webmin since I been spoiled by it.
 
Depends. For just adding/removing from groups I just edit the file manually, but I do use useradd, groupadd, userdel, groupdel to create and delete groups.
