do you have a 8800? have you tried to install linux and had no success, because of your 8800? i have downloaded 3-5 linux distros with no success in installing them. help!

latest distro ubuntu desktop 64 bit...help! 🙁
 
Drivers are one of the two biggest weaknesses of linux. High-end hardware tends to be poorly supported. You might try downloading drivers from nvidia's website.
 
The Ubuntu alternate install disc should just use an ncurses interface so it should work just fine, same goes for the Debian installer since it defaults to ncurses.
