Linksys WRT54Gl WiFi Acting Up

We recently bought and installed a Linksys WRT54GL router and have been having problems with the wireless cycling on and off, not allowing you to connect. I did a lottle research and read a few articles about modem and router being too close causing problems. Has anyone else had this problem, or know any solutions?

Hmm.. I have WRT54GLs for ten years never experienced such an issue.

On the other hand if you want a credible answer you have to provide technical info about they configuration of your system and how it is used.

Wierd um well i have TomatoUSB installed, the wifi strength is at 55 and we moved the modem, its just that the signal isnt very strong so it gets spoyty and drops your device.

It's a good router or it was a good router 10 years ago but you should be running N everything has N now. TP link makes some chap and good N routers that take tomato.
If you are having problems with your linksys try a new firmware shibby or some other version of tomato
 
maybe try ddwrt. But I remember them having lots of versions. What version of the wrt54g do you have. Some had so little memory it could only take the micro version? It's been so long I don't remember. BTW I had version 2 mine ran for close to 8 years, never rebooted it (cept when the entire house loss power). In DDWRT, 55mw for the tx is a little high. I know default is 71? But 20mw gives me the same reception and probably less noise especially when I have bridges running. I've heard great things about the asus rt16.
 
We think our router converted to modem's wireless is interfering with the wireless from the router. We cant access the config page on the modem becuase it is in transparent bridging mode and the ip config is all screwed up. How do I access the config page?
 
So, it seems that you have a Wireless Modem/Router, and you add to it a regular Wireless Router.

If the Modem/Router is suppose to work as a transparent bridge you can not use its Wireless.

If you can not access it press the reset button and start from scratch.

Or, get in some one that knows what to do.

I got the Modem/Router wireless turned off and its better but still not that great upstairs. Any Ideas?

Wireless also depends on the environment, at time there is No good solution but to use few Wireless Router configured as Access Point and connected with a Wire to the main Router.

The way to Max Wireless signal of a single Router is to use a Good Dual Band Router and a Dual Band Client card.

The general idea about Home Wireless is to get a Wireless Router that is DD-WRT compatible, (in case One needs advanced features), Dual Band capable, and being flexible about budget.

Saving within the sub $100 category on a device that is going to be used for few years and it is the center of the Internet connection/Local Network is rather Silly.
