Linksys WRT54GL + TP-Link TD 8816 ADSl 2/2+ Ethernet Router

I'm currently uing a linksys router (wrt54gl) and I just piciked up a modem/router for my DSL service.

Want I want to do is is be able to use the tp-link modem/router just as a modem and use my linksys as my one and only router. So basically i want he tp-link to pass all router fucntions on to my linksys disabling it's router ??

Is this possible? Somebody mentioned setting the tp-link as a gateway but I have no clue how I can change the settings to refelect that.

Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance 🙂
 
Search the support site of tp-link, and find the manual for your specific Model.

Otherwise.

You have three options.

1. Buy your own DSL Modem connect it to the wrt54gl.

2. Set the wrt54gl with the current system as a switch with an Access Point ( Using a Wireless Router as a switch with an Access Point - http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html ).

3. If the Current Combo Modem/Router can be configured to work as a transparent DSL Bridge (modem only). Configure it and use the wrt54gl as a regular Router.
 
i was able to setup the tp-link router/modem as a bridge and it seems to be working fine through my router.

Just to confirm, setting it up this way does pass all router functions to the linksys,correct?

Also, is this the preferred method over setting up a gateway?

Yes that is correct. :thumbsup:

If the Linksys is better than the Router part of the Modem/Router combo (and in most cases it is) then it is the preferred way. :light:
