The deal is
Sale Price $66.49

Total : $56.49 with free shipping and no tax in most states

That's a great price on the WRT54G. I'm sure more and more people know but don't forget to flash this thing with the sveasoft firmware to get a ton more features (like VPN, traffic shaping, SSH and a lot more).

how much is this at frys?

I understand its about the same price but with no rebate. I think someone said something about frys in another thread or had one for frys. I dont know because there's no fry's near me 🙁

Oh and dont forget, the wrt54gs (speed boosted g) is on sale at amazon as well. I have details in my thread:

Thanks to rasputinj for the info about the wrt54g. I link his thread in my thread.

ok thanks. i jumped on the boosted, price differenceis too small considering the 30% speed boost or so and whatever else. hope it works🙂

From what I am hearing the Sveasoft's firmware will make the G and GS model identical.

There's some confusion about this. The sveasoft can make the GS have certain things, like the additional parental filtering, something like that could be added to G (in fact there's some sorta filtering there already).

The main point I think you are thinking of is the GS speed boost. The true part of your statement is that the sveasoft enables a DMA memory mode (they just took the code from the linksys official firmware from the GS) on the G model and that means a bit faster ROUTING. But the actual WIRELESS speed is NOT changed unless you have actual GS. There's some actual hardware differances for the WIRELESS part.

As for 0roo0roo's question about "Is it free" that depends. Sveasoft's model is to release free fairly stable firmware ocasionally to the public no charge. He charges $20 for access to his testing experimental releases which often has bugs. Now his current free firmware is a few months old, but his current experimental build is in a feature freeze mode right now and he's just bug fixing. So I expect a new FREE release to come soon (I'd guess in a month or less). I tried the latest experiemental build and it seems quite stable, I was waiting for a fairly stable build to come out.

interesting stuff🙂 ybut yea i'm just getting the gs. even though i don't have gs type network cards all over my house. i have a mix of plain g or b. but sooner or lateri figure that stuff will end up on sale, just as the b/g stuf fi have now did🙂

Hope you all have better luck than me. My WRT54G went bad after only 6 weeks. The wireless part went completely dead.
