linksys wrt54g gone haywire

ok so apparently the electrical company was working outside today while i was away at work. I use a linksys wrt54g v3 router it is locked down with wpa and ssid hidden and all that good stuff. I come home and suddenly only one computer is getting a connection the router is handing out only one ip. I plug in an old netgear router and suddenly the network is fine. I look up the linksys router on the website and the power light is flashing which they say is from a bad firmware flash. But i wasn't even home all day to do anything. Also it still had the stock firmware on it i never upgraded the firmware. So could the electrical going out and coming back multiple times do this? anyone know of an easy way to fix this.

ok just an update but i tried following the linksys method of fiing it, by changing the settings on my nic and then trying to ping the router ip but i can't even ping the router ip it just keeps timing out also this is a version 2 not a version 3. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a reset button on the router?

i have already tried the reset (i wish it was that easy). I just tried the hardware method of trying to short pin 15 and 16 on the intel flash chip and i still got nothing. I am on my last leg. It is out of warranty but the thing has been a rock solid beast for over two years. any other help?

When you reset, do you hold in the button for 20 seconds while plugging in the power? If so, you have a brick, I am quite sorry to say.

JohnnyMCE, what are the LEDs on the front of the router doing?

You might want to run down to some store that takes returns and get a universal AC adapter with the right current rating and plug to replace the one that comes with the WRT, and try it. The power bricks on the Linksys routers are known not to be the best, and would be hit hard by the power company messing with your power. It's an easy thing to try.

You should not need to do anything that involves removing the cover. Doing so and shorting pins is a last resort kind of thing and you may have done more damage by doing that.

I've worked with a lot of WRTs, and never once fully bricked one, and never once had to remove the cover. I've certainly *thought* I bricked them plenty of times. So things might not be as bad as they appear.

Agreed. Get the polarity right too. I had 2 WRT54G's (model 1) fail in exactly this way, around 2 years after purchase. A wall-wart fixed the problem (although it had a lesser current rating), and Linksys send me 2 replacements upon submission of the problem report and serial numbers.

I have tried multiple ac adapters with it. Still the power keeps on flashing. I have tried software methods and i still cannot make any contact with the router. I have tried the pin trick and i get nothing. I really don't want to call it dead but it looks like it is getting close.

JohnnyMCE, have you tried to tftp in an image? Follow the instructions as if you had set boot_wait.
