Linksys wirelss B messed up my wired connection

well im a college kid so i took my desktop home for xmas break and installed a wireless pci adapter (linksys) to go with my already set up wireless router. the wireless worked fine but when i brought my desktop back today and hooked it into the network i get a connection but it doesnt receive packets. i checked the ip and default gateway, etc. and it is using an ip off 192.168.0.X and the default gateway is 192.168.0.1 which is incorrect because i checked on my roommates computer. I hooked my laptop up to the network here at school and it found the correct ip, subnet mask, etc. I also noticed that on my desktop that the subnet mask was 255.255.0.0 instead of the normal 255.255.255.0. any ideas of how i can get rid of the wireless stuff that is making it connect with those configurations?any help would be appreciated.

You really didn't describe your situation that well but to take the wireless card out of the equation, beyond removing it physically of course, is to disable it in your PC's device manager. Then run ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew to renew your wired NIC's IP. ipconfig /all to get your info from the prompt. This assumes WinNT or higher, 2k or XP. winipcfg for 98/ME.

EDIT: wow...and if I could read, I would have seen that the solution was already posted. oops.

there is a simple fix for your problem.

Start -> run -> cmd
first type "ipconfig /release" without the quotes
then type "ipconfig /renew" without the quotes
this should set you up with a compatible IP, gateway, etc. for your school network.

Just repeat when you go home to get back on that network.
