Well I'm fed up of this d-link card's intermittent drops. I've never had so many problems with wireless as with this "D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DWL-G520"...

Anyhow, I am looking at this Linksys USB thing ebay

is there anything wrong with such a device? is there any real difference between the usb device and a full "card"?

The linksys usb wireless is terrible in my opinion. Much better off with something internal

Hi RadiclDreamer,

Thanks for your input. Does the adapter being USB cause potential problems (assuming it does have the antenna)?

I have only had good experiences with Linksys, and not so good with D-Link and in both cases they have always been internal so far.

The issue is Not the USB per-se.

Wireless adds variables that are Not common to other consideration in the computer's performance.

The USB Modules (by their physical built in small plastic capsules) tend to have lousy antenna and they might be plugged into the computer in ways that Blocks/Masks the signal. Many of them tend to get Hot, and then internally reduce the Signal Strength.

If Wireless is installed to a desktop the best is to get PCI Wireless.

For laptop, if their is No internal Wireless, then PCMCIA is the second choice.
