Ok here is the deal:

compusa has it on sale for $129.99 - $30 mail in rebate.

Best buy just lowered the price on the 14th to $99.97. (I was in my store tonight- CA)

Have compusa pricematch the best buy $99.97, and then get the rebate $30.00 (compusa rebate only)(because your buying it at compusa)

$69.97 + tax. Normally sells for $149.99!

This is an EXCELLENT, HOT deal.. I paid $169 for Lucent Wavelan 802.11b cards (same thing)

You didn't mention that this is an 802.11b card. That's CRUCIAL! That means it's not that "wireless Home Networking" junk that CompUSA usually sells, this is a genuine piece of equipment. 11mb/second speed! That's fast. I know, my home lan uses these. 802.11b is the current Fast Wireless Ethernet Standard, used by Lucent, Cisco, and Apple.

has anyone tried using the wireless LAN card along with a 2.4GHz cordless phone? Any problem with that combination? Any info are much appreciated.

FYI guys....

I did some testing for my company regarding this awhile ago....isolated networks of 2, 3, 5, and 10 computers.

In a nutshell:
The 11mb/s wireless will be about %30 slower than a 10mb/s wired connection. This is from the overhead from error correction protocols. Turn on Encryption, and speed drops further, and range.


But our entire exectutive and IS depts use wireless on our laptops...just undock and goto the meeting...nice.

I have a wireless access point at home and at work. It's very handy
to have! No more worrying about hooking up cables, just whip out the
laptop and go :) The range is decent for home, and if you HAVE to
you can deploy more access points to increase the coverage.

We have 2 2.4 GHz phones and haven't had any problems. You may have
to try various channels to see which works best for your situation.
I'm using channel 7 myself and found it to work very well. I even
had a set of XCAM 2.4 GHz wireless cams AND the two Toshiba 2.4 GHz
phones going while I did wireless streaming video from the XCAM and
it worked fine...Just have to find a good channel to use.

Speed may not be as fast as wired but it's plenty 'nuff for DSL
connected browsing, streaming music from my MP3 server at home, etc.
I wouldn't want to try to download multi-gig files over it tho.

This is an INCREDIBLE deal. I may have to return mine to Buy.com and get them this way. Wow ... what a great price! :D

According to the CompUSA website, the rebate is a Manufacturer's Rebate. Unless it's CompUSA exclusive, there's no need to pricematch ... buy them at BestBuy!

Dang it! I just bought 4 of those from Buy.com.

Also, my Linksys Wireless Access Point has been back ordered for over a month. If anyone else has received theirs, please let me know where you bought it. Thanks.

Just got back from BestBuy ... sure enough, priced as listed, $99.99. Picked up another one or myself, and cancelled one I had waiting at Buy.com. Thanks for the tip!

forgive my ignorance, is this card compatible with wireless stations from other manufacturers, say intel's AnyPoint(?) or symphony's stuff?

It's only compatible with 802.11b (WiFi) equipment, like the Cisco Aironet stuff. Intel's is using HomeRF, and they are NOT compatible.

Stay away from HomeRF for now ... it's only 2mbit/sec. 802.11b is 11mbit/sec.

The only 2.4GHz phone that we've found that interferes with the Orinoco (Lucent) 802.11 cards is a Panasonic model. Supposedly, Lucent is working with Panasonic to resolve the issue.

Wow, that's an excellent price on the card... buy.com actually just lowered their price a bit on the access point. Use a coupon to save even more, they claim out of stock on their site, but they shipped mine... see below:

fyi, 802.11b networking does NOT require a access point. an access point in reality only gives you access to a wire network/extend the wireless range. you can just hook up the cards are network those computers.

150 bucks to wire(less)ly hook up ur computers is a good deal to me.
